Haydn
Quartet in D op.76 no.5
Janacek
String Quartet no. 1 "Kreutzer Sonata"
Schubert
Quartet in D minor, Death & the Maiden

One of Haydn’s finest quartets launches our season, with perhaps Schubert’s best-known quartet.

These two masterpieces of the classical era are complimented by Janacek’s celebrated Kreutzer Sonata.

The Heath Quartet’s reputation as one of Britain’s most exciting young ensembles has grown steadily since their formation in 2002. A natural flair for communication brings a unique energy to their performances, whether playing established masterpieces, works by neglected composers or new commissions.

In 2005 they were selected from amongst the country’s most outstanding young chamber groups to win the prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra/Martin Musical Scholarship Fund Ensemble Award. A highly successful debut recital in The Purcell Room soon followed.

During their career together, the Heath Quartet has enjoyed the mentorship of many eminent musicians. Their main inspiration comes from the years they spent studying with Dr. Christopher Rowland. Other regular tutors have included Gabor Takacs-Nagy at the International Musicians Seminar, Prussia Cove, and members of the Alban Berg, Smetana, Endellion, Lindsay and La Salle Quartets.

“The Heath Quartet displayed a rare musicality… A keen interpretive insight combined with refined playing...”
