Bournemouth Chamber Music is especially pleased to welcome world-famous pianist Cristina Ortiz for the first time.

She is no stranger to music-making in Bournemouth, having performed many times with the BSO.

Brazilian-born Cristina shot to international fame as the winner of the Van Cliburn competition (as did Radu Lupu before her). She then completed her studies with the legendary Rudolf Serkin before becoming resident in the UK.

A remarkable technique and an acute sense of musical adventure, evident in her wide ranging repertoire, make Cristina Ortiz a popular choice for promoters and audiences around the world. Recent highlights include performances with the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras, Czech Philharmonic, and the NHK Symphony Japan.

Cristina maintains a commitment not only to solo recitals and concertos but also to chamber music, with partners such as Antonio Meneses, Truls Mork, Kurt Nikkanen and Uto Ughi.

She has an enviable gift for communicating her passion for music-making through masterclasses and workshops - proving a source of real inspiration for students throughout the musical world.
