The Dante Quartet was founded
in 1995. They won the Royal
Philharmonic Society’s Award for
Chamber Music in 2007 and the
2009 BBC Music Magazine Award
for chamber music, and their
reputation is rising ever higher.
They perform a fascinating Haydn
quartet, at the crossroads between
his earlier baroque style and his later
quartets, but with some surprisingly
passionate music; a 20th century
masterpiece in Sibelius’s only piece
of chamber music from his maturity;
and Smetana’s remarkable semiautobiographical
E minor Quartet.
“These four players are an alchemist’s
dream; they turn every note into a
nugget of gold” (Oxford Times)
"No dithering with the Dante Quartet:
they plunge into whatever they play with
passion, energy and communal spirit”
(The Times)
